Joe Venuti shuffles (jazz violin lesson)

Pioneering jazz violinist Joe Venuti frequently used the double shuffle bowing pattern. In this lesson I demonstrate the basic double shuffle or hokum bowing pattern, and show how Venuti developed it by creating moving patterns on the upper notes, and by incorporating arpeggios. I then play the tune which he composed around these patterns, Pretty Trix, with suggestions for fingering, bowing and position changes.
