After moving away from Long Beach to a quieter town with his mother, Joey made the decision to move in with his uncle, because he could sense that his boredom in the small town would lead to trouble. However, the "How We Livin'" rapper said that his uncle's place was uninhabitable, and since Joey was a teen unable to financially support himself, he was homeless for a little bit.
After overcoming the situation, Joey said that he got into music, and the idea that he could go big came after seeing his cousin Vince Staples play to a sizable crowd. The West Coast emcee says that he always had the support of his cousin, which helped Joey to really push his dreams with music.
