ARITST STATEMENT:
Playing my horn has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been playing since I was twelve years old and have rarely missed a day’s practice. About seven years ago I lost my lip, I couldn’t play the way I wanted to, it was devastating. I practiced more, I practiced less, I took lessons and nothing was helping. When I noticed a slight tremor in my hand, I went to the doctor not believing anything was wrong, but came out of the office diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

One of hardest things I’ve ever done is put my trumpet down, which I did for two years, I was so frustrated. Then I looked online and read about other people’s journey with Parkinson’s. How they overcame their deficit to do what they loved was very inspiring for me. My wife helped me forge ahead and still supports me keeping my music a big part of my life. Today I’m back on my horn and it feels great. I’ve learned to adjust to my illness and not let it define me.
