Gospel chops are a style of drumming that combines fast, linear patterns with dynamic accents and syncopation. They are often used in gospel, R&B, and soul music to create a groove and a musical expression. ????

To play gospel chops, you need to master some basic skills, such as:

Playing even 16th notes on the hi-hat, snare, and bass drum, and adding accents on different beats or subdivisions.
Substituting some of the single strokes for bass drum strokes, to create more space and contrast in your patterns.
Playing a continuous string of either triplets or 16th notes around the drums, using different stickings and orchestrations.
Mixing up the note values and rhythms, to create variations and interest in your phrases.
