*ABOUT THIS VIDEO*
In this video, I take on the challenge of recreating the bass sound from Chappell Roan’s “Hot to Go” using four legendary vintage synthesizers: Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, Roland Jupiter-8, ARP 2600 & Minimoog.
The secret sauce? Pulse width modulation (PWM)—it’s the key to nailing that rich, dynamic bass tone. I’ll walk you through how I dial in the sound on each synth and perform the bassline, so you can hear the differences and pick your favorite. You'll see that sometimes a simple sound requires some very subtle knob turns especially with the envelope, generators, filter, modulation, and resonance
But here’s the real takeaway—it’s not about which synth was used on the record, but about understanding how to craft the sound on any synth you have. Once you know the building blocks, you can shape it your way. Plus, the way you play the notes is just as important as the sound itself!
So, which synth gets the vibe just right? Watch and decide for yourself!
