FAQ:
- What are you working on?
Check the bottom left of the screen.
- What music is playing?
A playlist of my originals and arrangements, more often than not unrelated to what's going on in the stream. Check the top left of the screen for the title of the current track.
- What software do you use?
For final scores intended for printing I usually use Lilypond, with Frescobaldi as a front-end application. For Majora, we are currently transitioning to Dorico to streamline the processing of parts. For rendering audio I load up VST libraries onto FL Studio. For composing I start with pencil and paper at the piano, and then I move to either Finale, FL Studio, or both. Sometimes I also revise things on paper. For writing libretti, I use WriterDuet.
- How did you learn to compose?
I had piano lessons at 11: One teacher for a year, a break, then another teacher for 2 years. The latter realized my interest was in composing instead of playing, and left me with a stock of resources to study by myself: Walter Piston's book on Harmony, Berlioz & Korsakov's Treatise on Orchestration, Bernstein's Young People's Concerts and Harvard Lectures.
For 6 years after that I wrote a lot of stuff, learning along the way from those resources and getting advice from other musicians on an online forum for young composers.
Later I studied at a music academy for 4 years, wherein I finished my theory courses and met other musicians personally.
I've never gone to music college.

*** I DO NOT TAKE SUPERCHATS ***
I appreciate it, but if you would like to support me, consider buying an album, a track, or a score from the links above, or even just donate at https://contact.mbulteau.com
Google takes a considerable cut off of superchats, and there's a threshold below which a payout will not happen, so basically they keep your kindly-sent money until enough has accumulated to justify sending it to me, which can take *months*.
If you buy my stuff or donate, only a small percentage is cut, and I get it immediately! :D
