This song was written by Ewan Maccoll. I recorded myself playing each instrument and singing. I first heard this song performed by the great Irish musician Seamus Moore. I have noticed subtle differences between American old time music and Irish/English music. I wanted to see if I could play Irish/English ballads in my own American old time style. So far I think I’m achieving my goals. I’ve always loved how Irish ballads tell tales, and I’m glad that I can approach these songs in a honest way which reflects the American old time tradition.
