"Mutilation Is the Most Sincere Form of Flattery" is the ninth track from the 2007 release Eat Me, Drink Me. The title first appeared on a Marilyn Manson shirt in early 2007 though it's significance was largely unknown at this time.
It was originally rumored to have been a criticism of My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, but it was later revealed to be a parody of imitative bands in general.

It is speculated that the voice heard during the song's intro is that of Adolf Hitler.
The line "I sell my shadow to those who are standing in it" is in reference to the slogan of the Celebritarian Corporation.
The song's working title was "Rebels Without Applause" (a reference to the movie Rebels Without a Cause).
