- poem -
my mom put a rubber band around my wrist
green. ugly. unflattering.
she put it on one day to stop myself
whenever i got the urge to devalue myself
she told me to tug on it
every time negativity invades my mind
a silly remedy
powerful in time
the physical pain
the scars made
whatever it takes to heal my insides
because we understand when we are hindering our physical recovery
but it's not always clear mentally and emotionally
so the scars on my wrist are a small price to pay
if it means i'll be able to claw myself
out of this grave
