Celebrate some of Red Bull's badass & motivational women athletes like Rachel Atherton, Lindsey Vonn & Maja Kuczynska as we look back at some of their best inspirational stories here on Unstoppable.
First off, travel back to October 29, 2013 when big-wave surfer Maya Gabeira made news as the biggest surf story of the year. When one of the largest swells to date had hit Nazaré, off the coast of Portugal, surfers from around the globe made their way to conquer these massive waves — including big names like Maya Gabiera and Carlos Burle. Charging the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman to date, Maya almost drowned. What came out of this death defying moment was a life-changing experience and a powerful story of resilience that still remains with the surfing world.
Then follow Maja Kuczyńska, who at 17 years old was the first junior world champion in indoor skydiving. As a seasoned sky dancing pro, Maja felt more comfortable dancing through air than most long-time skydivers. But Maja was one of the only sky dancers to jump into the wind tunnel without ever actually skydiving. All that changed when Maja decided it was time to jump out of a plane for real and skydive outside the wind tunnel for the first time.
Then we take a look back at Lindsey Vonn who was already well on her way to solidifying her reputation as one of the greatest skiers to step foot on the slopes. But that year the then 25-year old skier had her eyes set on making history in women's alpine skiing. Look back at Lindsey's journey to her first gold medal, as the hosts of Pushing Boundaries interview her and document her intense training leading up to her making skiing history.
Then we follow Rachel Atherton as she brings her downhill MTB skills to once again compete at Fort William, Scotland. The intense pressure from riding in front of a home crowd of avid fans and family weighs on Rachel though. When asked about her past experiences at Fort William, Rachel says, ".....past results at Fort William is definitely not my favorite subject." How does she fare during this downhill mountain biking race — especially as the weather gets more unpredictable?
Finally witness as Sasha DiGiulian became the first woman rock climber to ascend Viaje de los Locos—one of the hardest multi-pitch climbs in the world. 330 meters (1,082 ft) above ground, this seven pitch climb on the Italian island of Sardinia was a rock climbing feat that only one team before had successfully ascended.
The then 21-year old Sasha DiGiulian teamed up with her climbing partner Eduard Martin Garcia to take on the extremely difficult climb, ending with Sasha becoming the first woman to reach the top, and the pair becoming the second team in history to ascend.
