Recorded a week after the release of the single "Thriller" in 1983, Chicago 1945 was initially recorded and worked on for inclusion on the Victory album for the Jacksons, which never came to fruition. After the track was left to the vault, Steve Porcaro took matters into his own hands and finished the track using the vocal takes Michael had recorded and added new instruments on top of the work done in the Victory sessions.
In 2014, the Michael Jackson estate approached Porcaro about including the track on the then upcoming "Xscape" album, which Poraco declined due to him disapproving of the estate’s “straight to remix” approach to Michael’s unreleased material.
In January of 2024, Labyflan and I collaborated on remixing a Prince track, which led to us working on Michael's material. We attempted many different ideas with Chicago 1945, with the only ideas sticking being the overdubs on the drums, horns, Guitars & the brand new bass line using a real bass, giving it a "Funk" feel.
AI was used to isolate out & enhance the elements in the track. A huge thank you to Labyflan for playing the new instruments for the track and aiding in the mixing process.
