Bass Lessons : 01 Key Frets
This is the first in a series of 5 minute lessons on how to play the bass. In this video I'll explain the relationship of each string to the other. If you've never played the bass before, this is a great place to start as this is the fundamental bit of info to get started.
Each string is related to the others on the instrument by a few pretty simple metrics:
+ The 5th fret on a string is the same as the open string above it. When I say "above it" I mean in terms of tone/pitch, because in physical space it's actually lower. But it's a higher tone/pitch!
+ The 7th fret is the same tone/pitch (but an octave higher) as the open string below it (again below it in terms of pitch).
+ The 12th fret is the octave on the same string. So whatever the tone/pitch is for that string, the 12th fret is the same! Just an octave higher.
