Drumheads play a significant role in how a snare drum makes a sound.
Each drum head tonally delivers something different depending on thickness, how we tune it, and construction.
These aspects of a drum head impact how we perceive the sound of the snare drum we are putting it on.
For example, this Kelley 14” x 6” Maple 6+6 Sunrise Snare Drum is very responsive.
To add more control to the drum sound, I slapped on an Evans G2 coated.
This Evans G2 drum head allows the drum tone to be more focused and controlled while keeping intact all of the attack, depth, and sustain of the tone.
A low tuning could be just above finger tight or have a little more pop to the sound like this snare drum.
This sound makes sense when you know a G2 heads have a balanced attack, average sustain, slightly bright tone, and moderate durability.
Combining the knowledge of the drum head and the drum brings us to an understanding of how we are getting the sound we are getting from the snare drum we have.
