If you’re dealing with really cheap instruments coated in what’s essentially furniture-grade polyurethane varnish, you’ve probably faced the frustration of bridges constantly sliding around, making it impossible to stay in tune, or even falling off. This applies to violins, violas, and cellos! Here’s a simple fix, but *big disclaimer*: Only do this on very cheap instruments, as it can damage the varnish on properly finished ones.

1. Loosen the pegs and remove the bridge.
2. Lightly score the bottom feet of the bridge with scissors.
3. Create rosin dust using the sharp edge of your scissors.
4. Apply the rosin dust to the bridge feet.
5. Place the bridge back on the instrument, aligning it with the inside notches of the f-holes.
6. Tune the instrument.

This will prevent the bridge from moving, keeping your instrument in tune and playable!
