He says this because does she not only not want to be identified as African-American, but she also doesn't want to be referred to as gay/lesbian, as she simply doesn't want to be labeled. Jamar says the idea that we shouldn't be labelled is silly, as labeling is our way of classifying ourselves and differentiating one thing from another.
