WISCONSIN POLKA: Ruby Grassel / Rock-It Polka / December 636 / 1964
Rueben “Ruby” Grassel was born on May 5, 1926 in Marshfield in central Wisconsin. Attending nearby Auburndale High School, Ruby started music lessons in 1942 as a sophomore, and joined the Auburndale High School Band. Ruby's own band started in 1954 and played ballroom engagements up until 1975. Many musicians from Marshfield and surrounding areas played in the band, including Harvey Pongratz on the accordion and his brother Ray on trumpet and guitar, and Fritz Mauel. In addition to playing music, Ruby farmed in Milladore from 1958 until 1988. He passed away on August 19, 2020
