This is a very common progression used in tons of jazzey songs like "Just the Two of Us" and "What You won't do for Love"

These are super handy inversions for Major 7, Dominant 7, Minor 7, and Minor 7b5. The Drop 3 voicings simply bring the note on the high E string down to the low E string. But this gives us all kinds of cool songwriting and producing ideas. If you combine this with common alterations of 5 chords, in the jazz setting, you get those cool 5 to 1 tension and release altered sounds.

The downloadable TAB includes all of the 7th chord inversions including the Drop 3 inversions. Memorizing these will enable you to play over most jazz tunes! And it will teach you the vast majority of chords used by neo soul artists and modern bedroom jazz style guitarists.
