A haunting melody and a haunting film; both very sad. "Ruby," written by Mitchell Parish and Heinz Roemheld, became a hit single for singer Ray Charles in 1960 when it peaked at #28 on Billboard and at #21 on Cash Box on December 24, 1960 (Ray Charles–ABC-Paramount 10164; CB date). Actress Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten starred in the film used in this video, "Portrait Of Jennie" (1948), directed by William Dieterle and based on the 1940 novella by Robert Nathan. The introductory music is the main title arrangement written by Angelo Badalamenti for the David Lynch film, Blue Velvet.
