Presenting ReadingLAB, a face for an ideology that has been providing for the community's education needs since 2006. Based in Kajang, Selangor, we run proven reading and essay writing programmes in English and Bahasa Malaysia, catering to children between the ages of 4 to 17.
.
【The Preschoolers (4-6 years old)】
The best way to teach a young child is to immerse them in activities that will excite and not overwhelm them. Our class of four-year-olds are taught by listening to stories, role-playing, rhyming and singing. When a child begins to understand a language, it is easier to acquire reading skills.
Children at the age of five should be able to read short sentences, understand enough of the language to answer questions about pictures or stories read to them and carry on a simple conversation. This class will continue to strengthen the child's language proficiency and guide their reading through phonics.
Our aim for the six-year-olds, who are a little more confident in reading, changes as we prepare them for formal schooling. These children will be exposed to a much wider variety of storybooks with a more complicated storyline to better their reading ability and to expand their vocabulary. Along the way, their spoken English and BM will improve too.
.
【The Primary School Goers (7-9 years old)】
The basic writing programme is the beginning of a child's writing journey. Here, these school-going bairns will learn the mechanics of sentencing, paragraphing and story writing. The foundation of this programme, however, is still reading.
What will children write about with their limited years traipsing Earth? How will they write about history, geography, or science? How will they discuss topics about the world or life? Storybooks present secondary life experiences.
How will children put forth their thoughts and describe images they want their readers to conjure without an extensive vocabulary? Read. Read. Read.
How will children know what story writing and structuring entail if they do not write enough to grasp the mechanics of it? Memorisation will not help here. Consistent reading and writing only will improve them over time.
.
【The Basic Classic Readers (age 10 to 12) 】
【The Intermediate Classic Readers (age 13 to 17)】
【The Advanced Classic Readers (age 15 to 17)】
Reading and writing is the double helix that promotes scholarship. But as children mature, doing just that is not enough.
Our writing programme nurtures the habit of reading across genres so that children may tap into the brilliant minds of past and present and observe the many ways language has evolved in form and presentation. Thought-provoking discussions and consistent writing practices in class also challenge the children's reasoning, analysing and creative prowess; tools that will develop their writing style.
Engaging and educating children in this way create quick-witted and empathetic individuals ready to take on the future.

【Who are we】
We are Malaysians from a variety of disciplines who have come together to do what we love most - moulding the future through reading and essay writing. Many of our team have been with us since the first year we commenced operation.
When the MCO was imposed, it was without a doubt that our lessons would continue online. We worked tirelessly round the clock to perfect our virtual skills, test out various programs and conduct training to ensure we keep to our pedagogy.
With the foundation that we have built, our classes remain as effective as before.
Of course, our classes are not void of games! Friendly competitions are incorporated into our lessons, too. For what better way is there to challenge and enhance your ability if not when pitted against another?
