The lilting rhythm of songs like Sam Cooke’s “What A Wonderful World” and doo-wop songs of the 1950s and early 60s is distinctive, but rarely heard in modern music. Learning the right hand technique necessary to play the feel on guitar is a useful process though - it requires accuracy and great control and isn’t as easy as it might sound.

In this short acoustic guitar lesson, Elixir Strings artist Shawn Persinger, shows you the basics of the technique that he refers to as the ‘Latin Twist’. It involves both palm muting and raking, so provides a good workout for the right hand. Shawn also demonstrates an extension of the technique by including bass notes for when you’re ready to take things a step further!

Whether on stage or in the studio, Shawn plays Elixir Acoustic and Electric Strings for their tuning stability and long tone life. Check them out: https://www.elixirstrings.com/products
