Simple Guitar Trick That Will Make Your Playing 10x Better!

In this video, I break down the idea of "target notes" on guitar—basically, the root notes of the chords you’re playing. Simple, but game-changing.

I’m using G, C, and D in first position on an acoustic guitar to show you exactly how this works. By locking in on those root notes—G on the low E, C on the A, and open D—you build a rock-solid foundation for your playing. From there, I show you how to spice things up with walk-ups, walk-downs, and hammer-ons—little tricks that act as the glue between your chord changes.

I’ll demo everything slow and clean, then crank it up to performance speed so you can hear the difference. Plus, I’ll throw in a slick alternate voicing for D (by shifting a C shape up two frets) and show you how grabbing an F# with your thumb can fatten up your sound.

This lesson is all about first position fundamentals, and we’re just getting started. Stick with me, and I’ll keep stacking these skills in future lessons. Let’s go!
