Slapback delay was a key component to the sound of early rock'n roll, Rockabilly, and Country music in the 50s and 60s and it still lives on today in modern roots music as well. It is used so much that is basically a staple like reverb and overdrive, and once you understand the basics of a delay pedal it can be really easy to dial in the sound you are looking for!

It doesn’t matter if you have an old vintage Boss DM-2 analog delay, a DD-3 digital delay, an echoplex tape delay, $300 Strymon Timeline or a $20 delay pedal you got from Amazon. You can dial in a great slapback sound with just a little bit of knowledge and letting your ear guide you.

Let me know in the comments what delay pedal you’re using and how you like to set it up!
