Today for show n tell I brought my complete Slipknot "Self Titled" CD collection! This amazing masterpiece truly ushered in a new generation of metal music and fan's on a whole other level of dedication and destruction. Not unlike ICP and the Juggalos, Slipknot's Maggot's go hard af for the brand and would all tell ya THIS album is the BEAST that changed their lives...I know...cuz I am...and it did????.
The debut studio album was released on June 29, 1999 under Roadrunner Records by producer Ross Robinson who captured the intensity that the band created when performing live. This is the only album to feature original guitarist Josh Brainard who recorded on all the tracks to that point. The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200, and has gone on to become certified double platinum. In 2011, it was voted the best debut album of the last 25 years and was ranked by American SoundScan as the fastest-selling metal debut in SoundScan's history.
A few interesting facts:
The album intro "742617000027" was named after the barcode on Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. and the dialogue, "The whole thing, I think it's sick." was taken from a Manson documentary. "(sic)" was written during Slipknot's very first rehearsal when they were called The Pale Ones and was originally called "Slipknot". "Wait and Bleed", was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
Slipknot later released a special tenth anniversary edition on (09/09/09) to reference the nine members and same lineup since the original release of the album (Unfortunately due to untimely death's and unknown circumstances only 5 of the original 9 are still in the band). The special edition includes a CD and DVD with 25 songs including the original album with "Purity" (my favorite Slipknot song). The DVD, "Of the Sic" was directed by Shawn (Clown) Crahan, features early footage of the band, all three music videos released in support of the album and an entire live concert. A "super deluxe" version contains a T-shirt, patch, collectible cards, key chain, beanie and a note from Corey Taylor.
Slipknot has since claimed God status in the metal world and music industry as a whole and will soon be embarking on some EPIC and unpresidented plans including a New Music Video, New Masks and even NEW MEMBERS! Hold on tight maggots...SH!TS ABOUT TO GET SIC!!
