Originally written on July 18, 2019, as part of the July 2019 SADFAM (Song A Day For A Month), and at this time, the city of Los Angeles was experiencing an unsettling uptick in cases of typhoid fever, said to be caused by an increasing rat population and unsanitary conditions throughout the cities homeless encampments. Typhus and Typhoid Fever are spread through infected fleas riding on the backs of rats, but can also be spread by cats and opossums. This increase in cases had been observed in years leading up to July 2019 and into early 2020, but were largely forgotten soon thereafter, seemingly due to concerns over a new contagion just reaching American shores.

“Something Will Come of This” is my personal response to the issue of homelessness in Los Angeles and California in general, especially the broader politicization of the issue and abject failure of local and state governments to enact effective measures to mitigate it.
