The « ka » drum, the traditional percussion of Guadeloupe is central to the music of Sonny Troupe. It’s a legacy that the drummer and percussionist perpetuates and confronts to jazz. But he is also influenced by a wide range of music he is fond of such as jungle, electro or metal music.
His music can be defined as a music where “gwoka”, the traditional music from Guadeloupe (French West Indies island), is the basis on which everything is built and evolves.
