In this video I break down the bass line from Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. This bass line is of course played by the great Tommy Shannon and it has lots of useful Blues riffs and lines that you can use yourself at a Blues jam or gig.

Texas Flood is in 12/8 time and this is an important time-feel to get right. It often confuses bass players so I am also going to explain more about playing bass lines in 12/8 time.

First of all I will show you how to play the bass line from the first chorus of Texas Flood and then I will analyse the rest of the bass line and show you some key variations that Tommy Shannon played.

This bass video tutorial is suitable for absolute beginner bass players through to intermediate bassists.

• Click for my 'Bass Beginner Series'. The series cover lots of topics for beginners, with tips on bass techniques, scales, arpeggios, pentatonic scales, and learning to read music.
