These are ten basic rhythms you must be able to play with your leading hand on the hi-hat. If you can play all these patterns comfortably at a variety of tempos, you'll have a solid foundation for the majority of popular songs.

0:21 eighth notes
0:51 off-beat eighth notes
1:21 triplets
2:00 shuffle
2:27 jazz/swing
2:52 sixteenth notes
3:31 sixteenth notes (with two hands)
3:58 broken 16th notes (pattern #1)
4:32 broken 16th notes (pattern #2)
