The camel-bactrian, Camel-Asiatic or simply camel (Camelus bactrianus) is a mammal native of the steppe region of Central Asia, more precisely, the region of Bactria; hence his name. Almost all animals of this species live domesticated by local populations, but there are still more than a thousand specimens in Mongolia and northwest of the People's Republic of China.

It is very similar to the other species of the Camelidae family, which can be found today in northeastern Africa and in the western part of Asia, the camel-Arab or dromedary (Camelus dromedarius). The camel-bactrian is distinguished from the dromedary by its greater size and by the presence of two humps. It is thought that the latter may be a descendant of the Bactrian camel.

This animal supports truly extreme weather conditions, especially in Tibet and other mountainous areas of Central Asia, where summer temperatures can reach 40 ° C by day and night temperatures below 0 ° C. It can withstand great periods of time without eating or drinking and is very strong, being able to walk 47 kilometers per day carrying weights over 450 kg. It is found in the wild only in the Gobi Desert.

It also takes advantage of meat, milk and skin.
