Grooving with The Sound of Philadelphia: Guitar Tutorial for 'Use Ta Be My Girl'
The O'Jays came out with "Use Ta Be My Girl" in 1978, the height of disco. It was a big crossover hit, going to #1 on the R&B charts and also #4 on the US Hot 100.
I played this in so many bands. There are 2 guitars on the record, Bobby Eli and Norman Harris of MFSB weaving their parts together. I've never had the luxury of having that live, so I usually get to play the main rhythm and put in some fills whenever I get the chance. Super-fun!
