Ghost notes are something that pro drummers play behind the drum kit ALL THE TIME! This is one of those things that separates good drummers from great drummers! It's what adds expression and color to drumming and helps subdivide the tempo. I use ghost notes no matter what style of music I'm playing drums for. Watch the full drum tutorial to learn how to be a good drummer!

These two drum lessons will help you develop adding ghost notes to your drumming. This covers beginner drummers and intermediate drummers. The first exercise is a simple introduction to the snare drum technique. The second drum exercise uses paradiddles and is a bit more advanced. Feel free to pause the video while you practice and watch as many times as you like, whenever you want to practice your ghost note drumming. I always recommend using a metronome when you practice to develop playing a solid tempo.
I've been playing drums for over 35 years and am here to pass along my experiences from behind the drum kit and in the business. I have toured and gigged all over the United States and have recorded with many artists over the years. Although playing drums came naturally to me, I have studied with some great drummers and practiced a ton to refine my playing. I marched in drumline and played jazz through high school and into college, meanwhile keeping a night job with independent bands. I have played primarily original music throughout my career, but have also enjoyed stints performing in cover bands.
