Practicing long notes is one of the most effective ways to work on your sound and improve its quality.
When you play long notes, make sure that:

* You play the note as long as you can until you have no air left.
* Aim for a steady note, avoiding any wavering in the sound.
* Play them at a good loud (forte) dynamic.

For an advanced challenge, you can play long notes using different dynamics:
* f (forte)
* mf (mezzo forte)
* mp (mezzo piano)
* p (piano)

You can also combine them:
* f diminuendo to p
* p crescendo to f

There are many other techniques you can explore, but these tips will give your practice a great start and If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how passionate I am about sound.

Throughout my teaching career, I've helped many students enhance their playing.

If you’re struggling with any aspect of your saxophone skills—whether it's sound, embouchure, technique, dexterity, timing, or anything else—I’m excited to announce the reopening of my Mentorship Program starting in September.

We are currently accepting applications. If you’re seeking daily mentorship to guide you through your saxophone journey, apply at the link in my bio or comment “Mentorship” below, and I’ll send you more info.

Happy playing!
