Hello :)

This is the requested transcription I've done of the O'Jays song "Back Stabbers" from their 1979 album Keep the Fire. George Hawkins was the bass player on this track.

You can find this transcription at Muzento when you sign up with an Intermediate Lesson Plan.

When I think of underrated bass players, I think of Mr. George Hawkins. Man could this guy play...and sing too! This song was just a pleasure to transcribe and learn. George was a super tasty player with great feel and rhythm. What a nice player he was...so good! :)

This is one of those songs where I've heard it a bunch of times, but I've never really listened to it. The subtle things he puts in on the bass are fantastic. What a nice player...haha I can't say it enough! :)

There's a repetitive rhythm in this song, but I had to really pay attention to the articulations. He uses short and long notes in some spots that are really effective. The pre chorus and bridge are so cool. The rhythm and feel he used in there...really nice. I wonder if he ever played funk or jazz on the side? Does anyone know?

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did :) Thanks for watching.
