TODAY’S BASS LINE

Today, as I was walking home, a Bass Line came to me. I tried to keep it in my head so when I got home I could work it out on my Bass. I even kept the key in my head, thinking it was in the key of F or F#. Well, once I arrived home I had fun with it. A strong Bass Line that could be the main theme and important element of a composition.

Perhaps a movie with the Bass Line as the main theme? How about a Big Band arrangement having the Bassist play the Line solo, out front and mysteriously? What about having a Drummer/Percussionist play in double time, with a ride swing pattern on the cymbal and a back beat on the snare?

That is the beauty of the BASS. We are the foundation upon which everything rests on. Amazingly, countless chords, rhythms, patterns, harmonies, etc., can be created from one single Bass Line.
