Thomas Earl Petty was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist who led the rock bands Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Mudcrutch. He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys in the late 1980s and a successful solo artist. Petty's music combined Southern grit, California folk-rock, and garage-rock, and transcended genre and geographical boundaries. His hits include "Refugee", "Free Fallin'", "Don't Come Around Here No More", and "Into the Great Wide Open".
