Paganini’s Caprice no.2 Tutorial Video: Huge leaps and relentless string crossing, sometimes jumping across G-E and sometimes involving double stops of 3rds & 10ths. Paganini marks ‘dolce’ at the start but for this Caprice mainly resembles a musical battle between both angels and demons, both confirming the nature of the work – a Caprice – and also of Paganini’s conflicting character.
Technically, as well as needing a great string crossing technique in the bow, a lot of strength and flexibility is needed in the left hand. Here, I give some vital tips on how to get around these difficulties.
