What's Up With Low Tuned Harmonicas?

What's up with Low Tuned Harmonicas? What are they better for? What are they worse for? Are there certain positions where they excel or not? What can I play on them? All of this and more examined from the road in Seattle in my hotel room. Today I'll be using Low "D", Low "F" and a Low "Eb" while comparing them to regular tuned HarmonicasI.
