The original Prince version of When You Were Mine has the main hook by a synthesizer, so an acoustic guitar/harmonica version probably sounds more like the Mitch Ryder version from his 1983 album "Never Kick a Sleeping Dog". Great tune regardless of which version you like. Maybe even the Cyndi Lauper cover?
In this video I demonstrate, with easy-to-follow PictoTab®, how to play the main hook as well as a solo on the harmonica. I play it in the key of B-flat...pretty sure...though it may be some modal thing going on. I use a low F harmonica (you can use an F), which probably means we are playing in 12th position...or maybe not. But I assure you, all the required notes can be found on an F harmonica, where the B-flat root note is at 5-draw.
It's a fun one -- enjoy!
