Being in control of a bouncing bow is a wonderful thing for a violinist. Simply letting the bow bounce on the spot develops the flexibility in our hands and arms to adjust to the ever changing weight of the bow as we draw our strokes.Playing off the string in different parts of the bow shows us the different properties of the bow and helps us adjust our bow arm until the bounce is much more natural and predictable. Then we can set about making our off strokes more and more beautiful. Mary
