I’m always concerned about how much tension is needed or not needed to perform a technique. Clenching the violin is something I commonly see, and jaw tension means there’s neck tension which means there’s tension placed on the spinal discs which can lead to disc herniation and other problems, and that is something that I preach must be avoided as much as possible. No matter what technique you’re working on, be aware of how much tension you’re putting on that chinrest with your jaw!
