In Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” architect László Tóth (best actor Oscar nominee Adrien Brody) emigrates from post-war Europe to the United States to revive his career. In the film’s stirring opening scene, he arrives in New York Harbor, with a skewed view of the Statue of Liberty that portends an unequal assimilation into the promise of America. Cinematography by Lol Crawley. “The Brutalist,” released by A24, is nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including best picture.
