Written by Big Joe Turner and wife, Lou Willie Turner, "Honey Hush" was recorded in May 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and released that August by Atlantic Records. It was a number-one song on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues chart for eight weeks.

The song has since been covered by Johnny Burnette's Rock and Roll Trio, Chuck Berry, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney with David Gilmour, Ian Paice and others, Jerry Lee Lewis, Albert King, Robert Nighthawk, Screaming Lord Sutch, Foghat, Coco Montoya, Fleetwood Mac, George Jones, Jools Holland and John Lindberg Trio.
