Continuing this journey of playing drums and creating music, we sometimes get locked in our personal preferences.

The way we set up our drums is one of the examples I would like to touch on today.

We all have particular places where we like things to be with our setup because it’s the most comfortable for us.

Although, what if you changed something up that would cause you to adjust to a newer setup?

For example, I have my ride cymbal in the corner created between my kick drum and my floor tom.

For the setup in this video, I had to shift my ride cymbal to the right to fit the stand with the stack in the ride's original spot. While still putting the ride in a comfortable position.

Simply put, our creativity shouldn’t depend on our current setup. It should be reliant on what the song needs and how we can serve that song through how we create it.

The song is always the foundation of any drum setup.
