In this video, we discuss 3 core competencies to look for when you're wondering how early to start music lessons for your child. Although many teachers (myself included) will take students as early as 3 years old, I recommend waiting til age 4 or 5. Kids this age generally have:
- Greater ability to focus for longer periods of time
- More coordination for fine motor skills
- More internal motivation.
That being said, you are the best judge of your child. If you feel like they're ready, don't hold back! Also, if you didn't start your child at 4 or 5 years old - all is not lost! Anyone at any age can be successful if they're willing to put in the time and effort.
