From the Festival of the Bluegrass, June 7, 1996...

The Scene's penultimate number on this evening set—(they were later called back for an encore)—was the great classic from the Stanley Brothers, "How Mountain Girls Can Love." The Stanleys recorded this number in September, 1958, on King 615, a "must-have" LP for all bluegrass music fans. Carter and Ralph Stanley, with Bill Napier and Al "Towser Murphy" Elliott, had first publicly performed the song in a live show at New River Ranch just three weeks earlier. (See all the details in Gary Reid's wonderful book, "The Music of the Stanley Brothers," University of Illinois Press, 2015.)

This high-energy video clip of the Seldom Scene was captured by the talented Kentucky Educational Television crew directed by Russ Farmer. It features Ben Eldridge (banjo), John Duffey (mandolin), Ronnie Simpkins (bass), Dudley Connell (guitar) and Fred Travers (dobro).
