Lesson 42 introduces ghost notes, which are soft, barely audible notes, normally played 'in the cracks' to add texture to a groove. You should play ghost notes with a low stick height and tap the drum very lightly. By contrast, the regular snare notes should play noticeably louder, and with a greater stick height.
