God created the sun, the moon, and the stars to serve us. They give light during the day and at night. They are also used to count time, days, and years. In the Old Testament times, each new moon marked the beginning of a new month when the people of Israel were to remember the Lord.
Also, on the occasion of extraordinary events, God often used signs in the sky. In contrast, pagan nations worshiped the sun, the moon, and the stars (they were represented by goddesses in ancient Babylon and Egypt). Later, this idolatry was taken over by the Greeks, Romans, and other nations.
The Lord forbids this worship. Even today, people tend to worship the sun, the moon, and the stars. For example, they celebrate the winter and summer solstice according to the original pagan traditions; they "draw energy" from the sun and the moon, for example, with yoga. Star signs (astrology, zodiac signs) also include various incantations and superstitions, which are actually part of witchcraft. We who worship our one God, who rules over all, are grateful to Him for the work of His hands, that is, for the sun, the moon, and the stars. They serve us here on earth, but they will one day pass away, as we are promised a new heaven and a new earth. But for us, the true light shines, which is God and Jesus Christ. and now and forever, so may we also shine like the stars that enlighten the world. Amen.
