Acoustic fingerpicking exercises can be both fun and musical, if they are done in the correct way. And, they are not just for general technique or perfecting tone because there are other important areas they can develop as well. That said, this lesson will have one of the best fingerpicking drills to make your next acoustic guitar workout complete.
In order to round out your playing skill for fingerpicking you will need to focus on plucking accurately across string groups, developing new rhythm durations and work with a variety of carefully selected backing tracks to hit every function of fingerpicking in the right sequence. That is what we will do in this lesson.
The problem with fingerpicking training isn’t just that it trains simply a fraction of what the hand muscles are capable of, but also that many guitar players choose the wrong exercises and songs that only duplicate similar functions.
If we look at basic fingerpicking drills, we see that there are different ways to perform them. Most ways are just duplications of the same top down motion. Putting too many too early in your workout is going to make it nearly impossible to perform more difficult movements or variations to the rhythms later on.
