"Wave" - A.C. Jobim: Harmonica cover Rob Paparozzi and Boaz Kim

On the late-Toot's Thielesmans' birthday, I saw a video of him playing, "Wave." I looked it up in the Real Book and played the chords on the 48 chord harmonica to practice on. I had played the melody, which is one of the most beautiful for me, before but never tried playing the chords to it. I posted it on Instagram and my friend, Rob Paparozzi, said we should multitrack this. What a great idea!

Other than using the Real Book's chart for the tune, everything else we just made up ourselves rather than using a pre-written harmonica trio arrangement. Here it is!

If you don't already know Rob, he is a leading studio musician and performer on vocals and harmonica... of all types, in the NY and NJ area. He currently performs with Blood Sweat and Tears and the Hudson River Rats, and he has performed with a long list of heavy hitters like Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, B.B. King, and more! And this relates to Toots, too, because they were both friends in NYC and Rob had received a few lessons from him when they first met.

I once sat-in at a charity concert in Philly that Rob was headlining, and had seen him at SPAH once so I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity to do this multitrack!

Rob is playing on a Hohner 270, the classic chromatic harmonica of nearly 100 years.
Boaz is playing on a Hohner Chord 48 and the Bass 78, both the updated versions of their legendary orchestral harmonicas.
