FENNELL "We Three Kings" (Vocal with Piano & optional Brass)

I wrote this nine years ago as a Christmas gift to my wife, and we performed it together that season. It is true that am a bit late for the celebration of Epiphany. I was a bit delayed with a cold which took a toll on my voice. While my singing voice even now is not yet back to 100%, I was able to get it recorded, albeit a little bit late!

This arrangement may be performed effectively with just piano and voice, but I’ve dressed it up with a flugelhorn solo playing quite a stylized obbligato and some brass to add a brooding simmer to the sound. And though it’s not actually in the score, I also added finger cymbals, because…why not?! The part of the five brass players could easily be filled with a brass quintet, where the top voice plays the obbligato flugelhorn part, and the rest fill out those brass parts.
