➡️ If I had heard “Want” by Jawbreaker before getting into punk rock on this channel, I would’ve assumed that’s what “textbook" punk songs sounded like. Nowadays, I can better appreciate the well-crafted songs from the punk rock scene, and this track ticks all the boxes of a cleverly-written punk anthem. Focusing on the band’s songwriting as a 3-piece, I loved hearing how bassist Chris Bauermeister doubled up on the bass presence throughout the song with rich bass chords, his groovy intro that reprised throughout the song, and his crisp piano-like Precision Bass tones. I discuss their use of the modal chord changes that, when used sparingly, become quickly effective in deviating from the song’s tonal center and overall feel. This is an succinct, catchy tune that slowly compounds on its own energy and makes you want to hear it again and again! I WANT YOU! ????✌????
